In support of California's Supreme Court ruling.

[originally posted on Tumblr, Thursday, May 22nd, 2008. Moved for contextual reasons.]

Two quick rants, in the form of third-party statement and my counter-argument:

Heterosexual marriage is meant to be a vehicle for procreation. Legislation supporting gay marriage threatens that inherent purpose.

Now is the perfect time to take another look at the idea of the family. Our planet simply cannot sustain continued procreation at the current rate. Why is it so widely accepted that you must have children of your own in order to be worth anything in this world?

Do yourselves a favor, and examine another perspective: VHEMT

Furthermore, what do you think these gay couples would do if they couldn’t marry? They’d probably realize it was just a phase—better yet, a sin—and become heterosexual again. Bingo, more babies!

By repealing the previous ban, you are enacting laws that directly target our faith and family values.

What a bigoted viewpoint. Some people who don’t fit the ideals of your chosen religion win some equal rights and you see yourselves as the victims? By the way, this is the religion you have chosen because it is your freedom in this nation—your right. How is it now your right to impose those aspects of your belief on others? What exactly makes you more important than them? Is it the idea that our nation was founded ‘under God’?

Read this article. Yeah, when you start getting that righteous feeling, enjoy it. Sit back for a minute and think about how you were right all along. Then read the article again. What you missed the first time was the underlying argument that church and state are separate by Constitutional law. The United States is not a Christian nation. We are a free one. We are all free to do as we please as long as our actions do not cause harm.

Now, tell me again how heterosexual marriage is any more valid than another combination of sexes.
